About Me

Hey! My name is Selwyn, and I am currently an undergraduate student at Northeastern University pursuing a Combined Major in Business Administration and Computer Science! My interests are in software development dating back to when I was a high school student trying to make a simple game based on my favorite show at the time. Since then, my love for coding has only increased! Aside from academics, I really enjoy listening to music, spending time with my family and friends, and exploring new cities!

Experience
Chewy CO-OP

I designed and automated the creation and development of Oracle ERP report jobs and ETL processes, significantly optimizing SQL database interactions by leveraging SQS, ECS, CRON jobs, multithreading, and a watcher, which resulted in a 60% reduction in processing time. Additionally, I contributed to a high-priority project focused on vendor compliance, utilizing Spring Boot and Next.js to deliver solutions that generated substantial cost savings for the company, though specific details are restricted due to an NDA. Working as part of a cross-functional team, I utilized the SCRUM framework and JIRA for project management, ensuring efficient collaboration and timely delivery of objectives.

Here Are Some Of My Projects!

Read-The-Room Web Application

Utilizing the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js), I developed 'Read-The-Room,' a sophisticated web application designed to foster enhanced teacher-student communication during lectures on Canvas. The application champions the use of web sockets to facilitate a real-time feed of questions directed to the teacher. These inquiries can be either anonymous or attributed, granting students the flexibility of choice. A robust security framework has been integrated into the system, complete with differentiated login and signup mechanisms for teachers and students. A standout feature of this application is the post-lecture analytical report presented to educators. It showcases a bar graph wherein the x-axis symbolizes the class duration, and the y-axis quantifies the volume of questions raised at any given moment. This visual representation not only provides insights into student engagement but also allows the teacher to click on specific segments to view and respond to the questions raised during that time frame.

Spotify API Web Application

This application utilizes the Spotify API to access data from Spotify. Given the user logs in, this application will return the last 50 played songs by the user. Furthermore, it allows the user to click a song and see the lyrics of that song using a lyrics API. This application uses express.js, axios, and react.js. With express, I was able to create a server that allowed me to fetch the refresh token every hour automating that task for a better user friendly environment. I am currently working on allowing the user to play their recently played music and add to their playlist! I plan to continue to work on this project in the long run.

Let's Get In Touch

Currently, I am looking for any opportunity to get some hands-on experience! Whether that is doing Front-End development or Back-End, I would love to be a part of your team!
